Children in Care Council (CICC)

Service

The CICC is a group of young people who are looked after by West Sussex County Council. They meet every two weeks to discuss issues that matter to those in care, and help shape the services that are provided.

Activities include talking to those who provide services (including social workers, school nurses and decision makers), inspecting services for children and young people, and giving their view on issues that are important to those in care.

What we do:

  • The Children in Care Council (CICC) is a statutory requirement by WSCC for young people in care, as a mechanism for having their voice heard.
  • The group offers young people the opportunity to share experiences, meet professionals and contribute to service design, whilst working with a range of services and partners, e.g. The Corporate Parenting Panel, Social Care and Service Heads.
  • The views of young people who are looked after are heard, listened to and fed back to services. With this mechanism, CICC is able to hold services to account and effect change.
  • Services respond by completing an impact form, highlighting what they will do differently. Young people are at the heart of service design.
