Coder Dojo Brighton
Service
A free workshop for 6-17 year old kids to learn computer programming across a wide variety of programming languages. Runs every 2 weeks (some variation) during term time on Saturday mornings 10a.m. - 1p.m. Kids learn at their own rate. Most Mentors are DBS accredited but under 13's need to have a parent present. A laptop computer required (not ipads and chrome books etc), but we do have some which can be used on the day. Girls are most welcomed - turnout is between 15-25% of 35-50 kids
What we do:
- For younger kids we recommend SCRATCH to get started: create an account before you come on https://scratch.mit.edu
- Moving on from Scratch, we have developed projects in PYTHON which run every session
- If you have time and a fairly new laptop you can also learn how to make projects in UNITY, a games engine. You need to download it before you come: https://unity.com
- Mentors also offer hardware focused projects on Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other including robotics platforms
- Mentors, depending on who is available can also help with many other programmes including C sharp, + and ++, Java, Javascript, etc
